Clock Speed
Number of evenly-spaced pulses generated by a computer’s clock to regulate the switching activity of the circuits. Measured in megahertz (MHz) or gigahertz (GHz), clock speed is usually associated with the computer’s performance higher the speed, more powerful the computer. Different microprocessor architectures having the same-clock speed, however, will process data at different rates due to their internal efficiency or lack of it. The original IBM PC (introduced in 1982) had a clock speed of 4.77 MHz, the latest Intel processors have clock speeds of 3.0 GHz or more.
